Luggage Hero: A must have app for travelers

Many of us have experienced the frustration of wasting time that could have been used to explore a city due to a long layover. Or what about those times when your checkout time is 11:00 am, but your flight is at night - in each case, what are you to do with multiple bags of luggage? In the past, these circumstances have limited the amount of time I have available to explore the city, and with travel being expensive, it is important to get the most bang for your buck. Well, fear no longer!

Recently I discovered Luggage Hero, a game-changer for all those intrepid travellers out there! The company, founded in 2016 by Jannik Lawaetz, offers people the alternative of storing their luggage in one of their partnered local businesses, such as hotels, cafes, or shops. These partners provide a safe space for travellers to store their luggage hourly, starting at $0.95 per bag or a daily fee starting from $6.05 per bag (Luggage Hero, 2022).

The service is available in over 150 cities worldwide (Luggage Hero, 2023). To make a booking, you can either use Luggage Hero´s online platform or download their free mobile phone app, available on the Apple Store and Google Play. Here is how it works!

1. Choosing a Luggage Hero partner location

Simply type in the name of the city you are currently visiting in the search bar. Next, choose a date for drop-off and the number of bags you plan to store. You can also choose whether you would like to get charged for multi-day storage (where you will be charged per day), or alternatively, you can select the option to pay as you go (which will charge you a flat rate for every hour the luggage remains in storage). Next, a list of shops will be displayed on your screen that shows the distance from your location, their daily or average fee, ratings, and opening hours.

Then you may choose the shop that is most convenient to you by clicking on Book Now!

2. Completing booking

After choosing your preferred storage site, you can then click on Confirm Booking or Book with Google Pay. Details, including directions, will be sent to your e-mail and SMS (if chosen). This information will also be available on your booking page (Luggage Hero, 2023a).

3. Payment

The great thing about Luggage Hero is that you do not need to pay right away!

Once you arrive at the shop to drop off your bags, you may start the Storage Timer, which keeps track of the amount of time your luggage remains onsite. Payment is processed later when you pick up your luggage and after you stop the Storage Timer. All payments are safely processed online using your credit card (Luggage Hero, 2023a).
